"Keeping our customers proactively informed helps them with their cargo planning and minimises uncertainty that could disrupt their supply chain. Our operational updates for North America are aimed at offering more transparency and improving the information flow for our customers to better manage and oversee the movement of their cargo."

US West Coast ports - have been experiencing ILWU Labor disruptions at various levels, mainly targeting vessel operations. Vessel arrival and departures have been impacted by delays on the load and discharge operations.

Caanada - Due to an impasse in negotiations with the BC Employers Association, the ILWU, representing 7,200 longshoremen in Vancouver and Prince Rupert, British Columbia, will conduct a strike vote among members June 9-10, 2023. If passed, the earliest possible date a potential strike could take place would be June 24,2023.  Hapag-Lloyd is monitoring the situation closely and will continue to provide regular updates as more information is received.

Atlantic Services

Atlantic Loop 2 (AL2) service

  • The AL2 service will change rotation to New York – Philadelphia – Norfolk. New York second call omission extended until week 29, 2023.

Atlantic Loop 2 (AL3) service

Atlantic Loop 4 (AL4) service

  • MV ONE Triton V099 to phase into the service, replacing MV Brooklyn Bridge, expected to arrive in Veracruz on June 23, 2023

Atlantic Loop 5 (AL5)

  • The structural omissions of Tacoma, Vancouver and Los Angeles East bound are extended until week 32, 2023.
  • Weekly adhoc private Hapag-Lloyd calls to St John, Canada added through July 16, 2023.

St Lawrence Container Service – Route 1 (AT1)

East Coast Asia Loop 1 (EC1)

  • MV Basel Express V046E and MV Dortmund Express V049E adhoc port call in Manzanillo, Mexico expected to arrive on June 12 and June 18, 2023, respectively.

East Coast Loop 2 (EC2)

  • The EC2 will change its port rotation to call Charleston prior to Savannah for all voyages from week 20 to week 34 westbound.

East Coast Loop 4 (EC4)

  • Los Angeles terminal change from International Transportation Services (ITS) to TRAPAC with effect from MV YM Worth V037 on May 25, 2023.

Pacific South Loop 8 (PS8)

  • No schedule updates for this week.

India America Express (IMX)

  • The IMX service will omit Savannah and Charleston until week 26, 2023.
  • MV Budapest Express V3121 will replace MV Navios Constellation, expected to arrive in New York on June 30, 2023.
  • MV Seaspan Ganges V3131 will replace MV Budapest Express, expected to arrive in New York on August 30, 2023.

India America Express 2 (IN2)

  • MV Mombasa Express to replace the MV Navios Domino, expected to arrive in Norfolk on July 27, 2023.

Asia US East Coast Service Loop 7 (AA7)

  • Revised east coast port rotation to call New York (APMT) – Norfolk – Charleston – Savannah that will come into effect from MV Wan Hai VA10 expected to arrive in New York on June 7, 2023.

 

LATAM Services

South America East Coast Service (SEC)

  • No service updates for this week.

California Central America Express Service (CCE)

  • No service updates for this week.

Caribbean Express Service (CES)

  • No service updates for this week.

Gulf Caribbean Service North (GCS)

  • No service updates for this week.

United States

New York

  • No waiting time expected for berth at Global Container Terminals Bayonne, APM Terminals and Maher Terminals LLC.
  • No empty shut out situations at any of the terminals this week.
  • Average gate turn times are 46 / 76 minutes for single and double transactions respectively.
  • APM Terminals remain open on Saturday June 10, 2023, from 07:00 hrs.-15:00 hrs. (with a 13:00 hrs. inbound cutoff). Acceptance or delivery of OOG or Reefers (empty or loaded) will not be allowed.
  • Vessel and gate operations shut down at all terminals from 15:00 hrs. on June 7, 2023, till 08:00 hrs. on June 8, 2023, due to poor air quality and visibility restrictions brought on by the Canadian wildfires.

Norfolk

  • Most vessels are expected to berth on arrival, or within half a day. Occasionally vessels may experience a 1.5-days delay for berthing.
  • Average gate turn times are 33 / 44 minutes for single and double transactions respectively.
  • One cranes down at Norfolk Int’l Terminal, however,  no negative impact expected the week.

Charleston Terminal

  • Waiting time for vessel berthing is 1 days at Wando Welch Terminal and no waiting time expected at North Charleston Terminal.
  • Average truck turn times are 21 / 20 minutes at Wando Welch Terminal and North Charleston Terminal respectively.
  • The SCPA now has chassis pools at all their locations: Wando Welch Terminal, North Charleston Terminal, Hugh Leatherman Terminal, Inland Port Greer, and Inland Port Dillon.
  • Sunday gates are by appointment only. To request a Sunday gate, party responsible for delivery / pick up will need to submit a gate request by 16:00 hrs on Friday using the “Gate Request” form submitted to [email protected]
  • Maintenance dredging at Wando Welch Terminal continues. 

Savannah

  • Waiting time for vessel berth at the terminal is up to 3.5 days, depending on the size of the vessel.
  • Average gate turn times are 35 / 54 minutes for single and double transactions respectively.

Houston

  • Waiting time for vessel berthing is up to 1 day.
  • Saturday gates at Bayport and Barbours Cut Container Terminals discontinued as of May 1, 2023.
  • Average gate turn times are 37 minutes at Barbours Cut Container Terminal.

Oakland

  • Average wait time of up to 5 days at Oakland Int’l Container Terminal (OICT) and 2 days at TraPac.
  • Average import deliveries can take up to 5.6 / 4 days at TraPac and OICT respectively. As yard space becomes available, boxes from TraPac will move to accessible areas for delivering.
  • Average gate turn times are 64 / 52 minutes for OICT and TraPac respectively.

Seattle - Tacoma

  • There are no vessel berthing delays in Tacoma. However, in case of delays at departure ports overseas, delays of up to 5 days are expected.
  • Import deliveries are 2 days at HUSKY – due to EB/WB rail car imbalance, 0-3 days at Washington United Terminal and 0-3 days at T18.
  • Availability of rail cars in Union Pacific Rail and BNSF Rail continues to fluctuate weekly. This week has seen a significant lack of cars for the Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railways.
  • Average gate turn times are 33 / 42 / 46 minutes for T18, Washington United Terminal and HUSKY respectively.
  • T18 will be closed on June 9, 16 and 19, 2023. Washington United Terminal will be closed on June 19, 2023. Husky will be closed on June 19, 2023.

Starting June, the following SSA Terminals T18 (Seattle), will offer a fee-based weekend gate. The first appointments must be received by Wednesday, May 31 for the June 3 and 4 weekend. Transactions (inclusive of refrigerated cargo and peel stacks) are as follows:

  • All import pickup:
  • Export drops
  • Empty pickup/drop on a dual transaction only
Gate hours will be from 8:00 hrs. – 16:00 hrs and instructions for gate participation are as follows.
 
  • Interested parties to send an email to [email protected] advising transaction(s) no later than close of business Wednesday. The email must include:
    Terminal, Day/Date, SCAC, Contact Information, for Peel Off/OneStop total number of containers draying out, container number for all other Import Pickups, export Booking/Container number and if an empty drop/pickup will be paired with the load transaction.
  • Cost to participate will be sent out to interested parties by Thursday.
  • Confirmation/agreement of customer participation will need to be received no later than 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time Friday.
  • Import appointments for RTG row/lanes can be made thru Emodal.com. 
  • Pre-Arrivals must be made for Empty Drop/Export loads thru Emodal.com.

All containers must be cleared of all holds and charges prior to weekend gate.
 

Los Angeles/Long Beach

  • All terminal gates are running as published and in line with Pier Pass program.
  • Port of Los Angeles dwell times for local import cargo is 3.3 days, on-dock rail dwell is 4.7 days and import units on street is averaging at 5 / 6.8 days for 20 ft and 40+ ft containers respectively. Additional details can be found here.
  • Port of Long Beach dwell times for local imports are stable and average terminal gate turn time is between 26-68 minutes, depending on the terminal. Additional details can be found here.
     

Special Note:

Vancouver

  • No berth congestion and ships are working immediately once alongside. Yard utilization at GCT has stabilized and is presently at 70%. It is expected that this will remain steady over the next week based on scheduled vessel calls.
  • Rail productivity remains below expectations due to reduced car supply by both rail providers. Dwell times remain high at 5.5 days and will remain high as both railcar supply remains inconsistent.

Prince Rupert

  • Yard utilization remains low at 58%. The terminal no longer requires a 100% matchback until further notice. Berth delays are minimal and once alongside, vessel productivity is high.
  • Rail dwell times are 4.8 days.

Montreal

  • Vessels are arriving on proforma schedule. Once alongside, productivity is stable and vessel changes are not expected. There are no issues with labor availability, and we are seeing good productivity in the yard.
  • Import rail dwell times are 1.9 days as car supply remains healthy.

Saint John

  • Schedule reliability for vessels calling Saint John is improving and productivity once alongside is strong.
  • Dwell times on terminal are presently at 3.7 days. Rail car supply is strong but there are minor delays switching through the terminal.

Halifax

  • Vessels calling into Halifax are not facing any significant delays. 
  • Rail dwell times have improved to 3.4 days as a result of strong railcar supply.

Quebec Spring Thaw

Chassis Pools

All pools operating as normal except for:

  • Minneapolis / St. Paul – Constrained on 20’ chassis.
  • St. Louis - Deficit on 40’ chassis.

We can secure truck power within 1-3 days for majority locations which includes marine terminals, rail ramps and depots.

Here’s an important change that will improve your experience with Hapag-Lloyd North America*. From June 1, 2023, we will no longer accept manual draft approvals and corrections. With this change, the email addresses [email protected] and [email protected] will no longer be monitored.

From June 26, 2023 onwards, we will transition to a faster, more efficient, and secure process for managing draft approvals and corrections. Although it may require an adjustment to your current processes, our user-friendly website is easy to navigate. Submit document corrections and approvals online for real-time updates on document status. Our correction team will email you immediately if there are delays, eliminating the need for follow-ups.

To get started: Simply click on the link in your notification email or log into the Bill of Lading draft (BL) approval web solution directly. From there, you can approve your BL draft in seconds, if it’s correct. If you require a correction, you can edit it and return it to us and you will receive a new BL draft shortly. Please note that we will release the BL or Sea Waybill once the vessel has sailed.

We understand that this change may require an adjustment to your current processes, but we want to assure you that our online platform is user-friendly and easy to navigate.   1. To use the new BL Draft Approval web solution, access the link in your notification email that leads you straight to your BL Draft on the Hapag-Lloyd web page or log into the BL Draft Approval web solution
  2. If your BL Draft is correct, you can approve it with just one click. If you need to request a correction, edit it, and return it to us. You will receive a new BL Draft shortly. Please note that we will release the bill of lading or sea waybill once the vessel has sailed.

The status of your amendments can be tracked on our website. If a delay is expected, our correction team will contact you immediately by email, so you do not need to do any follow-ups.
