"Keeping our customers proactively informed helps them with their cargo planning and minimises uncertainty that could disrupt their supply chain. Our operational updates for North America are aimed at offering more transparency and improving the information flow for our customers to better manage and oversee the movement of their cargo."

Panama Canal update - The lower-than-usual water levels in the Gatun Lake are causing severe draft restrictions on vessels transiting the Panama Canal. This has caused a backlog of traffic waiting to pass through. We are monitoring the journeys of our vessels and will keep you updated with your cargo planning.

Seattle / Tacoma - A significant shortage in the availability of railcars is seriously impacting both Union Pacific Rail and BNSF Rail. This is due to the low volume of cars heading Westbound to balance the high volume going Eastbound, especially with the Vancouver omissions. The railroads are actively collaborating with all stakeholders to enhance car availability. However, if additional Westbound cargo or empty cars are not provided, the situation will persist. Another option for inland cargo transportation is by truck.

Atlantic Services

Atlantic Loop 2 (AL2) service

  • Philadelphia proforma adjusted to Friday 08:00 hrs. - Saturday 01:00 hrs. effective MV Teno V007, expected to arrive in Philadelphia on January 19, 2024.

Atlantic Loop 3 (AL3) service

Atlantic Loop 4 (AL4) service

  • MV MOL Proficiency V 236 will replace MV NYK Demeter, expected to arrive Veracruz January 11, 2024.

  • MV Velika V029 will postpone her prior phase out of service and will now phase out of service with discharge only in United States East coast ports on voyage 08W45 expected to arrive in New York on December 2, 2023.
  • MV Mirador Express will phase out of service with discharge only in United States East Coast ports on voyage 07W47, expected to arrive in New York on December 16, 2023.

Asia Services

East Coast Asia Loop 1 (EC1)

  • MV Antwerpen Express V046 to phase into service, expected to arrive in New York on December 9, 2023.

East Coast Loop 2 (EC2)

  • No schedule updates for this week.

East Coast Loop 4 (EC4)

  • Service will temporarily be suspended until further notice. Last US East Coast sailing will be MV YM Wind V026 with expected departure from New York on December 26, 2023.

East Coast Asia Loop 5 (EC5)

  • Ad-hoc calls added to Charleston, Wando Terminal and New York, GCT Bayonne for week 51, 2023 through week 1, 2024.
  • Revised US East Coast port rotation of Norfolk, Savannah, Jacksonville, Charleston, New York, Halifax effective MV ONE Crane V027 expected to arrive in Norfolk on January 6, 2024.

East Coast Asia Loop 6 (EC6)

  • MV Ever Superb V100W to reverse rotation to Mobile – Houston due to extended stays at Houston.
  • The terminal in Houston will change from Barbours Cut to Bayport from MV ONE Competence V087 which is expected to arrive in Houston on November 25, 2023. 

Pacific Coast Loop 1 (PN1)

  • No schedule updates for this week.

Pacific Coast Loop 2 (PN2)

  • Updated service schedule starting from week 41 for the eastbound voyage of MV ONE Magdalena V008E, which includes the following ports of call: Tokyo, Kobe, Kaohsiung, Hong Kong, Singapore, Laem Chabang, Vung Tau, Haiphong, Yantian, Yangshan, Pusan, Vancouver, and Tacoma.

Pacific Coast Loop 3 (PN3)

  • The PN3 service is temporarily suspended.

  • Savannah/Charleston eastbound omissions extended through week 01, 2024.
  • Ad-hoc Savannah calls confirmed for MV Navios Constellation V3142 and MV Express Athens V3147 on November 24 and December 28, 2023 respectively.

India America Express 2 (IN2)

  • The updated service schedule for MV APL California, starting in week 44 on the westbound route, is as follows: Port Qasim, Mundra, Nhava Sheva, Jeddah, Charleston, and Savannah.    
  • MV Suape Express V003 to phase in to replace MV CSL Manhattan, now expected to arrive in Charleston on December 31, 2023.

Asia US East Coast Service Loop 7 (AA7)

  • MV Norfolk Express V001E and MV Savannah Express V001E to phase into service and are expected to arrive in New York on December 20, 2023 and January 10, 2024 respectively.

South America East Coast Service (SEC)

Vessel updates and port changes per service

United States

New York

  • No waiting time expected for berth at Maher Terminals LLC and APM Terminals.  However, up to 3 days waiting time at Global Container Terminals Bayonne can be expected.
  • Average gate turn times are 56 / 90 minutes for single and double transactions respectively.
  • APMT gate will not have a gate open on Saturday November 18, 2023

Norfolk

  • Currently, most vessels berth on arrival, however, the bigger vessels wait approx. 2 days for a berth.
  • Average gate turn times are 33 / 48 minutes for single and double transactions respectively.
  • Ultra Large Container Vessels (ULCV) berth 1, will be out of service from midnight November 17 to midnight November 18 due to fender repairs and paving work.

Charleston

  • There is no waiting time for vessel berthing at Wando Welch Terminal and North Charleston Terminals.
  • Average truck turn times are 22 / 18 minutes at Wando Welch Terminal and North Charleston Terminal respectively.
  • Sunday gates are by appointment only. To request a Sunday gate, party responsible for delivery / pick up will need to submit a gate request by 16:00 hrs on Friday using the “Gate Request” form submitted to [email protected]

Savannah

  • Waiting time for vessel berth at the terminal is up to 3 days, depending on the size of the vessel.
  • Average gate turn times are 37 / 52 minutes for single and double transactions respectively.
  • GPA no longer offer a Sunday gate. Monday-Saturday gate hours remain the same.
  • Two new cranes are currently being commissioned on berth 2, while four of the oldest cranes on the same berth are being demolished. As a result, berth 2's capacity to handle vessels will be limited for several months.

Houston

  • Up to 2 days waiting time for vessel berthing.
  • Due to vessel bunching the yard is facing congestion impacting the discharge productivity and extending port stays.
  • Average gate turn times at Barbours Cut Container Terminal are 39 minutes.
  • Loaded import dwell is at 3.4 days.

Oakland

  • Average wait time of up to 3 days at Oakland Int’l Container Terminal (OICT) and 4 days at TraPac.
  • Average import deliveries can take up to 4.1 days at TraPac and OICT.
  • Average gate turn times are 60 / 67 minutes for OICT and TraPac respectively.
  • TraPac has received 6 new RTG’s and are in process of commissioning, likely to be operational mid-December.

Seattle - Tacoma

  • Wait time of 5 days at Tacoma and 4 days at Seattle.
  • Import deliveries are 9.5 days at HUSKY – due to EB/WB rail car imbalance, 6.4 days at Washington United Terminal and 1-3 days at T18.
  • Rail car availability is currently a serious concern due to the low volume of cars heading Westbound to balance the high volume going Eastbound, especially with the Vancouver omissions. The railroads are actively collaborating with all stakeholders to enhance car availability. However, if additional Westbound cargo or empty cars are not provided, the situation will persist. Another option for inland cargo transportation is by truck.
  • The average gate turn times are as follows: 38 minutes for T18, 35 minutes for Washington United Terminal, and 49 minutes for HUSKY.
  • Terminal 18 will be closed on November 23, 2023 and Husky Terminal will be closed on November 23 and 24, 2023.
  • Washington United Terminal will be closed on November 23, 2023. Also running hoot gates on November 17, 21 and 22, 2023.

Los Angeles/Long Beach

  • All terminal gates are running as published and in line with Pier Pass program.
  • Port of Los Angeles dwell times for local import cargo is 3.0 days, on-dock rail dwell is 3.1 days and import units on street is averaging at 4.7 / 6.1 days for 20 ft and 40+ ft containers respectively. Additional details can be found here.
  • Port of Long Beach dwell times for local imports are stable and average terminal gate turn time is between 26-93 minutes, depending on the terminal. Additional details can be found here.

Vancouver

  • All marine terminals in Vancouver are currently operational and berth congestion is no longer an issue.
  • Yard utilization at GCT is at 64%. Rail productivity has improved. Dwell times have decreased to 3.4 days and the amount of loaded import on ground has remained at a steady level.

Prince Rupert

  • Yard utilization remains low at 51%. The terminal no longer requires a 100% matchback until further notice, however there is available capacity for increased inbound volumes.
  • Average rail dwell is presently 3.1 days.

Montreal

  • Bad weather has begun on the North Atlantic and this is having mild impact on vessel schedules through Montreal. Once alongside, there are no issues with labor availability and we are experiencing positive productivity in the yard.
  • Import rail dwell times are 2.5 days as a result of steady railcar supply.

Saint John

  • Bad weather on the North Atlantic is having a small impact on vessels arriving in Saint John.
  • Terminal productivity is strong and dwell times have improved to 1.7 days. Rail car supply remains stable.  

Halifax

  • Vessels are arriving in Halifax with minimal delays.
  • Import rail dwell is presently 7.2 days. Labor availability continues to be a concern and is being addressed with the Halifax Employers Association.

Chassis Pools

All pools operating as normal except for:

  • Louisville – Deficit on 20’ chassis.

Intermodal Operations

We can secure truck power within 1-3 days for majority locations which includes marine terminals, rail ramps and depots.

Changes to Manifest Amendment Fee structure

Thanks to your feedback, we have reevaluated the parameters of our Manifest Amendment Fee structure to align with your needs and expectations. Therefore, from August 16, 2023, we have implemented the following structure:

  • Bill of Lading amendments prior FCL port cutoff will not incur a charge.
  • Bill of Lading amendments post FCL port cutoff and up to the vessel's sailing will incur a fee of USD 25 per amendment.
  • Bill of Lading amendments after vessel departure will incur regular manifest amendment fees of USD 130 per amendment.
  • For Change of destination (COD) requests please use our e-form.
  • Please check our local website for additional local solutions and information.
  • You can do all your transactions digitally – from placing a booking to sending shipping instructions. Booking amendments can be made through our below-listed e-Booking channels:
    • Bilateral EDI connection between ERP systems
    • Integration with portals (INTTRA / GT Nexus / Cargosmart)
    • Hapag-Lloyd booking amendment form
  • To access our new web-based dispute tool, please click here. This comes with the following improvements for you:
    • Quick and easy, one step web-form submission. Excel downloads and emails no longer needed!
    • Provision to upload supporting documentation, select Import or Exports, Merchant Haulage, Carrier Haulage or Port CIT.
    • Mandatory invoice field ensures that a dispute is captured correctly.
    • Clearer definitions for dispute and charge types to assist with an expedited response.
    • Turn time for dispute handling is 15 business days from submission to settled.
  • To monitor your shipments, please use the Hapag-Lloyd Navigator, our new one-screen dashboard with real-time view on all your shipments. Alternatively, visit our Online Business Suite for vessel/container/booking status and sailing schedules information.
  • For faster BL release at destination, you can switch from OBL to SWB; however, we do understand that this is not always possible.

Mandatory online bill of lading amendment

Here’s an important change that will improve your experience with Hapag-Lloyd North America*.

From June 1, 2023, we will no longer accept manual draft approvals and corrections. With this change, the email addresses [email protected] and [email protected] will no longer be monitored.

From June 26, 2023 onwards, we will transition to a faster, more efficient, and secure process for managing draft approvals and corrections. Although it may require an adjustment to your current processes, our user-friendly website is easy to navigate. Submit document corrections and approvals online for real-time updates on document status. Our correction team will email you immediately if there are delays, eliminating the need for follow-ups.

To get started: Simply click on the link in your notification email or log into the Bill of Lading draft (BL) approval web solution directly. From there, you can approve your BL draft in seconds, if it’s correct. If you require a correction, you can edit it and return it to us and you will receive a new BL draft shortly. Please note that we will release the BL or Sea Waybill once the vessel has sailed.

We understand that this change may require an adjustment to your current processes, but we want to assure you that our online platform is user-friendly and easy to navigate. By submitting all documentation corrections and approvals through our website, you can benefit from real-time updates on the status of your documents.

Here's a quick guide on how to use the BL Draft Approval web solution:

  1. To use the new BL Draft Approval web solution, access the link in your notification email that leads you straight to your BL Draft on the Hapag-Lloyd web page or log into the BL Draft Approval web solution
  2. If your BL Draft is correct, you can approve it with just one click. If you need to request a correction, edit it, and return it to us. You will receive a new BL Draft shortly. Please note that we will release the bill of lading or sea waybill once the vessel has sailed.

The status of your amendments can be tracked on our website. If a delay is expected, our correction team will contact you immediately by email, so you do not need to do any follow-ups. If you should require additional information or have questions, please feel free to reach out to our customer service team at your location, who will guide you based on your individual situation.

Tank Container Charge Implementation by Georgia Port Authority at Savannah, GA

Starting October 1, 2023, the Georgia Port Authority (GPA) will be adding a new fee for tank containers at $125 per tank container. This applies to empty or full tank containers moving to/from Savannah, GA.
